V8 Supercars
V8 Supercars is a touring car racing category based in Australia and run as an International Series under Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations. As well as enjoying popularity in Australia, it has a considerable following in New Zealand[citation needed], and is steadily growing in popularity across the world[citation needed] where television coverage allows.
V8 Supercars second only to F1: Yas CEO
Yas Marina Circuit’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Cregan says that V8 Supercars is a key part of the stunning circuit’s future.
The track is host to a number of international events, including Formula One, V8 Supercars and the FIA GT1 World Championship, and the track’s Irish boss says that the V8 category is second only to F1 in terms of importance for the circuit.
Why V8 Supercars has hit the skids in Australia
The 2011 V8 Supercars season kicked off at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi over the weekend, in front of a paltry crowd and televised live into Australia in the early hours of the morning. As V8 Supercars assesses why crowds are on the decline and television ratings have plunged by as much as 23 per cent, perhaps they should start with the location of their season opener in the search for answers.
V8s give Middle East a tune-up
THE roar we had been waiting for went off in Abu Dhabi last weekend, with Holden coming out on top.
It was an all Team Vodafone front row for race one of the 2011 season, as Craig Lowndes claimed pole position ahead of teammate Jamie Whincup. However, it was Ford’s Alex Davison who got the jump from the second row, taking the pack around turn one.

These things were ... These things were fast but shocking to drive.? Every corner, understeer in, oversteer out!! Still made for interesting times compared to todays over PC Supertaxi's!!!
LOL....."V8 ... LOL....."V8 Supercar"......LOL
This was 1986, V8 'Supercab's' weren't even? thought of then!
Yes, then Nissan's were quick, but very fragile, same as the Bluebird's before them (infact from memory, Fury's pole time of 2:14 odd in 1984 (Bluebird) stood for about 7 years!)
....BUT....what/who won in 1986? A Commodore driven by Allan Grice.
I supported Brocky ... I supported Brocky throughout all those exciting years, but the old school drivers including Fury were all class act in my book..All tough racers that muscled their cars around the best track in the world-BATHURST--Where heroes? were made..excellent vid..
Thats right, the 10 ... Thats right, the 10" wheels farce!! Looking back, how or where did CAMS get the ideas that a Mazda Rx7 on 10" wheels would race on par with the V8s, but forgetting about the weight thinngy....shhessh.. well i drive a ford V8 so....actually all my past cars all? Falcons...I think my blood veins all blue so....cant really komplain...
dj17q ...? Nar to ... dj17q ...? Nar to be honist I like toyota`s .. I used to bug around knox city with a yellow mazda 1300 powered by a toyota twin cam with twin solex`s .. Yeah i`ll have to agree that group C was the dragons breath of that time then cams started p**sing with
10" tyres and made it a race between two car company`s
Anyway maybe you're ... Anyway maybe you're saying that cos you're into Nissan and all that, which is ok. I do like the Nissan Skylines, esp the R32s, awesome car BUT.....under group A rules it did ruin the 'racing entertainment'. It will not work. With turbo boost, computers and all that fancy mod-cons,...it got too much. So the best thing is to do with 5 litre class, or Supercars in todays language. But? personally I always prefer the old Group C era (1973-1984). Fantastic racing....
Hmm, are you ... Hmm, are you talking about R31 Nissans or the Godzillas? If you're talking about the 31s, th CommoBORES arent that bad, but they are more than a match at fast circuit like Bathurst. After all, with boost wound down to race spec, they struggled to keep in touch with the big V8s. For the? later 32s, as like what Larry Perkins once quoted, how do you work out getting many different cars with different set of given rules etc to work well under group A rules. A turbo car can have different boost etc..
dj17q .. Yeah right ... dj17q .. Yeah right ... I remember george racing a nissian at sandown park and there wasnt a v8 ford or holden that could catch it.
But instead of making ford and holden make there cars better .. they just slowed? the nissian down by p**sing with its engine
Cams pulled the ... Cams pulled the heart from this car cos the fords? and holdens could`nt keep up.
Pulled the blades out the turbo so there was inaffect no boost at all
anyone got a better ... anyone got a better quality? vid?
Everyone is allowed ... Everyone is allowed their own opinions. I personally prefer the Holden v Ford formula, but the Group C/A? days were awesome. Still loathe the R32 Skyline though, haha. Just my own opinion though.
i used to be that ... i used to be that way still am but the only import id own would be a black r32 gtr the rest are for? fairys
IDIOT!!!! Wake up ... IDIOT!!!! Wake up and understand that there are other cars in the world apart from Holdens and Fords. Holdens are rebadged OPELS and DAEWOOS and Fords are AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN. I have and I would have a Skyline over any Aussie car.?
Brock missed the ... Brock missed the top 10 cos Moffat? crashed it in qualifying.
more footage of old ... more footage of old school skylines!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whos got it? wang it on!!?
I met George a few ... I met George a few days ago at Talmalmo. A legend and nice guy.?
Actually, I think ... Actually, I think you're right, because offical lap records can't be set during qualifying.
And considering that the Bluebird had the fire extinguisher pointed at the intercooler, and had the waste gate wound shut for a one lap banzai run, the Bluebird? would of lost quite a few seconds in race trim.
dont qoute me on ... dont qoute me on this, im a nissan fan but i think? volvo still holds the record before the chase was added
Thanks for ... Thanks for uploading this video. I started my working career with Nissan Australia, fond memories driving awesome cars icl Aus built Silhouette Skyline GTS 1? and 2 before they were released.
That? was also the ... That? was also the last year before The Chase was added, so Fury's record technically still stands.
Wow, thats? some ... Wow, thats? some really great infomation... Thanks!
2? years previous ( ... 2? years previous (1984), "Farmer" George Fury put the put his Nissan Bluebird Turbo on pole with a lap of 2:13.85. The 1st ever Japanese car, 1st ever touring car under 2:13 & the 1st ever turbo car on pole at the Bathurst 1000.
